Solipsism

the philosophical idea that only ones mind is sure to exist- the external world and others minds cannot be known and might not exist outside of our minds.

I see a very clear link between the theory of solipsism and the ‘we live in a simulation’ conspiracy that theorise the world around us is fabricated by a computer/ simulation, and hence our surroundings and friends and not actually real.

Though i personally do not believe in or agree with this theory, I do find it extremely fascinating as I truly cannot prove that anything outside of my own mind is there. i actually find that this theory is an extremely isolating way to go about life as it implies that you are completely alone. I also feel that those who follow/ agree with solipsism must have an element of selfishness in their actions towards others and the way they go about life. Personally, i can however understand the feeling of being completely stuck in your own mind- this is something I often do when alone such as on the train or listening to music- and would like to portray this self isolation or de realisation through this development.
