The trip to the Tate gallery today was really inspiring as I haven’t been in a while so got to see a lot of new artwork and was introduced to new artists. I found it super interesting to go round the gallery with the intent of separating drawing, painting, photography and sculpture as I rarely t ever see drawing and painting as something different from eachother. There are also a lot of pieces that cross over such as photography with painted elements or painted sculptures. For the sculptures, i paid attention to the materials that were being used and more often than not, it was recycled or found materials. My favourite piece i saw today was Sarah Sze’s sculpture which took loads of household objects and created a beautiful and intricate sculpture that felt more like stars and had the movement of the ocean, whilst being made out of spoons and plants etc. the paintings that i am most drawn to are often very vibrant and have clean areas of bold colour so i tried also to sketch some simpler drawings and photos in black and white such as ‘remember royalty’. It was great to be back in an art gallery and to view the artworks in person because you often loose the details and scale when viewing artworks in books or online.
